Intro to Kohlrosing a Butter Knife
Saturday, December 7, 2024 | 10A - 1P | One-day workshop | $100
Kohlrosing is known to be a Scandinavian decorative technique dating back to at least the Middle Ages involving rubbing dark color into incisions cut in wood using oil and finely ground powders such as charcoal, cinnamon, or coffee. This technique was and is used to decorate wooden spoons, containers, and other wooden objects in material culture with lettering, patterns, designs, and line drawings. In this workshop, we will practice Kohlrosing techniques on wood first before working on a pre-prepared wooden butterknife, laying out a design, incising the wood, rubbing in the oil and powder, and burnishing the design leaving behind a lovely image.
Supplies: All materials are included with registration. This is a close-up technique so be prepared with glasses if you use them!

Make Your Own Sandals (SOLD OUT)
Saturday, July 20, 2024 | 10A - 4P | One-day workshop | $275
Learn to make your own pair of handmade leather sandals in this one-day workshop.
Leather sandals have been worn for centuries, and for good reason: they are durable, breathable, comfortable, repairable and grow more beautiful with wear and age. Stace works to revive this lost artisan craft by teaching one-day sandal making workshops, allowing complete beginners to make their very own pair of handmade leather sandals.
Choose from a handful of simple sandal designs. Modify the design to your unique feet, taking into consideration your bone structure and arch height. Learn how to shape the leather soles to your arch, attach a stacked leather heel, use leather-working tools to cut your insoles and straps, and strategically place your sandal straps to create the most comfortable sandal,
Choose from a selection of neutral leather colors (browns, black, tan, caramel) as well as more colorful pieces to accent your sandals. Mixing and matching is encouraged!
Once your sandals are assembled, Stace will finish them outside on a belt sander and…. Voilà! You’ve made your first pair of leather sandals. You will be able to walk out of the workshop wearing your new shoes!
No previous experience necessary, and this class is open to all over the age of 16.
Supplies: All materials included in registration.
